Is “losing weight” or “eating healthy” one of your New Year’s resolution? Getting from breakfast to lunch and lunch to dinner without thinking about a delicious donut could be difficult sometimes. We get it. Good news: there are lots of healthy snacks! Reach for one of these good-for-you treats the next time you’re hit with a craving.
- Chips
Once that bag is open, it’s almost impossible not to eat it all! Be aware though: a bag of chips (225 gram) easily contains 1100 calories. Oops… There are a lot of healthy alternatives, like… chips made from kale! Super crispy and definitely worth a try.
- Vegetable chips
If kale is not your thing, you can always make your own homemade vegetable chips! You might even have it in your fridge. Try zucchini, sweet potato, parsnip, beet or carrot. Sprinkle a little salt, chili and pepper, put it in the oven – et voilà!
- Popcorn
Fancy something crispy and salty? Make your own popcorn! Put the corn in a pan with a layer of sunflower oil, wait for the corn to pop and add some salt. Don’t forget the lid. 😉
- Dates
Are you a real sweet-tooth? Dates are delicious and packed with vitamins and minerals. Four dates contain around 80 calories – definitely not as much as that chocolate mousse you were going to buy.
- Vegetable with dip
Dip your favourite raw vegetables (sweet tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, radishes, bell peppers and celery) in a hummus dip. Delicious!
- Artichoke with dip sauce
For this snack you’ll need a little more patience but it’s worth it, promised. Cook an artichoke and make a simple vinaigrette sauce. Pull the artichoke loose leaf by leaf, dip the bottom in the vinaigrette and scrape off the soft part with your teeth. Mmmm!
- Coconut flakes
Made with 100% natural and plant-based ingredients, super crispy and without added sugars. Have you ever tried coconut chips? Highly recommended.
- Seaweed
Go for delicious seaweed chips, made from thin nori sheets, with olive oil and salt. To be honest, these chips certainly contain calories, but because the bags are slightly smaller, it can be your new healthy snack! Seaweed contains all kinds of minerals such as iodine, iron and magnesium and vitamin A, B6 and B12.
- Gelato!
Perhaps you already saw it coming … How about an ice cream from Gigi? Our strawberry-berry-beet gelato contains only 88 calories per ice cream. (A Magnum is around 250 calories each, yep).
The best snacks are the ones that are easy to make, taste great, and fill you up without weighing you down — like these healthy snacks. What are your favourite snacks?
